As PLK Communities continues to grow, so does the team of experienced leaders guiding our people, properties and projects. John House, Vice President of Construction, brings decades of construction experience to PLK—and a career built quite literally from the ground up.
From Brick Masonry to Construction Leadership
John’s path into the construction industry began immediately after high school. Raised in a small Virginia town, he started his career as a brick mason laborer. That early, hands-on experience gave him an appreciation for the skill, planning and hard work required to turn an idea into something tangible.
In the late 1990s, John transitioned into construction management. He quickly discovered that his strengths extended beyond the physical work of construction: he had a passion for leading projects, supporting teams and coordinating the many moving parts required to deliver a successful development.
Before joining PLK, John worked for a large Richmond, Virginia-based construction management company specializing in multifamily and student housing. His leadership on several large-scale developments eventually brought him to Cincinnati in 2015, where he oversaw the construction of a privately owned student housing project serving the University of Cincinnati.
John later joined Construction Process Solutions, a Cincinnati-based consulting firm that helped clients navigate every stage of the investment and development process.
A Relationship Built Before Day One
John’s history with PLK Communities began before he officially became part of the company.
In 2017, while working with Construction Process Solutions, John served as the third-party construction consultant for Echelon. Through that project, he developed a relationship with PLK and saw firsthand the company’s approach to thoughtful development, quality construction and long-term community investment.
When PLK decided to bring its construction consulting capabilities in-house in 2019, John was a natural fit. He joined the company that August and has since played an important role in the growth and evolution of PLK Construction.
Today, John leads new construction initiatives and provides support across PLK’s property portfolio. He is involved in every stage of the process, helping guide projects from their earliest concepts through completion.
A Flagship Accomplishment
Among John’s proudest professional achievements is Alexander Pointe, the first PLK property built in-house under his management.
The development marked an important milestone for PLK Construction and continues to serve as a flagship example of the quality and high standards that define the company’s work. For John, it also represents what is possible when an experienced, committed team works together toward a shared goal.
That sense of teamwork is one of the things he values most about his role. John enjoys managing not only the construction process but also the people behind it—bringing together different areas of expertise, solving challenges collaboratively and seeing a project progress from plans on a page to a completed community.
Building Big—On and Off the Job site
John describes himself as having been raised on dirt roads and riverbanks. When he is not leading construction projects, he enjoys returning to those roots and spending time fishing for the one that didn’t get away.
Whether he is on the water or at a job site, John has always appreciated the satisfaction of building something meaningful from the ground up.
PLK Communities is proud to have John’s experience, leadership and steady commitment helping guide our construction team and shape the communities we are building for the future.
