Founded by Peter Klekamp in 2001, PLK Communities started out as a real estate management company with a focus on multifamily and industrial properties. Throughout the years, PLK evolved into the ownership and management of retail, office, and self-storage facilities in the Eastern United States. With the acquisition, redevelopment, and management of multifamily properties, our focus is centered on exceptional service and distinctive living experiences for our residents.

Today, PLK has over 200 full-time associates and manages over 6,700 apartment homes across Ohio, Kentucky and Florida. PLK Communities has grown into the largest owner of multifamily units in the Cincinnati Metropolitan Statistical Area while maximizing our value across a diverse portfolio of properties.

Through the years, the company expanded into ownership and management of retail, office, and self storage facilities. Today, the main focus is acquisition, redevelopment, and proactive management of multi- family properties with the goal of providing service, innovation, and value.

About Megan

Megan has 20 years of experience in the multi-family industry serving in various roles in property operations. She began her career with Hills Properties as a Leasing Consultant and quickly assumed roles as an Assistant Manager, Property Manager and finally, District Manager. Prior to PLK, Megan was a Regional Supervisor with Lifestyle Communities, Associated Estates Real Estate Corporation and Fairfield Residential. Prior to becoming Chief Operations Officer with PLK Communities, Megan served as Vice President of Operations when joining the company in February of 2016.

Megan has experience in varied markets including Houston, Louisville, Lexington, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati. She has experience with stabilized, value-add renovated communities and lease-up developments throughout her career, with a unit count currently exceeding 5,600 units. Megan was named a 2016 Rising Star of YWCA of Cincinnati Academy of Career Women of Achievement. She’s been a Forty under 40 nominee with the Cincinnati Business Courier and participated in the BizWomen mentoring event in 2020,2021 and 2022. Most recently, Megan was recognized as a finalist in the Cincinnati Business Courier 2020 and 2022 C-Suite Awards for Top Chief Operations Officer. She is an accomplished and influential leader who is passionate about the ongoing development and promotion of others.

She is a graduate of Bethel College with a major in Business Management and a minor in Psychology.

About Jon

Jon leads the finance and accounting functions for PLK’s growing portfolio. He has more than 10 years’ experience in real estate finance being involved in over $3 billion worth of real estate transactions. Prior to joining PLK Communities, Jon had a lengthy and successful career with Huntington National Bank, where he was a loan officer in the commercial real estate lending group, serving as Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager.

Jon is a graduate of Xavier University, where he earned a B.S.B.A with a major in finance and an M.B.A with concentrations in Finance & Marketing.

About Matt

Matt joined PLK in May 2011 as Chief Financial Officer and served in that role for 5 years. He played an integral role in moving PLK’s corporate headquarters into a new Class A mixed-use development in September 2015 that served as a catalyst for future growth. In June 2016 he transitioned to Chief Operating Officer and held that role for 2 years. In these roles Matt played a key part in the substantial growth of the company’s real estate portfolio through the aggressive acquisition, development, and rehabilitation of multi-family properties. Now as Chief Capital Improvement Officer, Matt is responsible to manage the strategic capital improvement initiatives of the company including value add unit renovations to the legacy assets. His extensive real estate and commercial lending experience includes acquisition, finance, accounting, multi-family and commercial property management.

Prior to joining PLK Communities, Matt had a lengthy and successful career with Huntington National Bank where he was a leader in the commercial lending group, serving as Vice President and Commercial Real Estate Area Risk Manager for the Cincinnati and Indianapolis markets. Prior to that, he spent 3 years at Safeco Insurance Company underwriting surety bonds on large scale construction projects throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

Matt is a 1995 graduate of Bowling Green State University located in Bowling Green, Ohio, where he earned a B.A. in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology. He is active in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Apartment Association. Matt is an avid basketball enthusiast and has been coaching in the catholic grade school league in Northern Kentucky for many years. Matt resides in Northern Kentucky with his wife and two children.

About Mark

Mark joined PLK in 2015 and successfully originated the company’s development division. He is responsible for leading all stages of development projects, from concept through completion.

Mark specializes in residential and mixed-use asset types. He has developed or acquired thousands of housing units and has provided solutions to many complex land use problems through strategic expertise.

Mark has an extensive background directing a variety of development projects in multiple states including multi-family rental communities, for-sale lifestyle communities, and senior living communities. He has represented ownership interests on asset operations, adaptive reuse projects, and public/private partnerships. In addition to this, Mark has negotiated note purchases involving foreclosure proceedings and other legal settlements.

Most recently, prior to joining PLK, Mark invested over $215MM in rental housing as a managing officer of a national REIT. He also spent 7 years at Miller Valentine Group as the Acquisitions and Development Manager. His career also includes planning and development administration in two government jurisdictions, site design, aviation planning/design, and master/comprehensive planning.

Mark is a 2000 graduate of the College of DAAP, University of Cincinnati where he earned a Bachelor of Urban Planning.

About Nick

Nick has over 18 years of experience in the Commercial Real Estate industry and began partnering with PLK in 2014. He currently oversees the development team focusing on the entire project cycle from site identification, project vision, entitlements, design and end resident experience.

Nick believes that good development is environmentally conscious, pushes design forward, and provides an emotional connection for residents.

He has significant experience in Tax Credit Financing, TIFs, Bonds, Brownfield Developments, Historic Redevelopments, and ground-up new construction. Before joining PLK, he spent 13 years as a Commercial Real Estate banker in Chicago and Cincinnati.

Nick graduated from The Ohio State University and is a proud husband to an amazing wife (Jessica) and father to two children (Eli and Zoe). When he is not at work, he is still working and dreams of fishing and the beach.
